Summary:
Takayoshi and Selfe discuss the transition from traditional alphabetic texts to multimodal texts. The authors call upon composition instructors to introduce students to multimodality in an effort to prepare students to both produce and interpret these texts.
Discussion Questions:
How do you assess multimodal texts in the classroom? Normalized assessment of such varied products will be exceedingly difficult.
Can multimodal texts improve communication or enhance a true conveyance of meaning? Or, does individual perception and context play an equivalent role in the varied interpretation of alphabetic text versus multimodal presentations?
