MC Activity #1
Reflection:
Responding to classmates' blog posts encouraged me to further comprehend the reading material by seeing other perspectives, interpretations, and applications to teaching practices. I appreciated people's views on their own classrooms, challenges faced, and how multimodal assignments can be effectively incorporated into pedagogy. In addition, the requirement to address different chapters in each response helped me draw connections between the readings, grasp a "big picture" idea of the problems at hand, and determine how each reading offered problem solving strategies for issues brought up by other authors.
Responses to MC Blog Posts:
Sarah's Blog: Chapter 7 and Chapter 5
Betsy's Blog: Chapter 4
Catrina's Blog: Chapter 3
Beth's Blog: Chapter 2
MC Activity #2
I plan to incorporate technology into a grant writing unit designed for an undergraduate scientific writing course. Technologies under consideration include mindmapping tools for planning and organizing a grant, skype for collaboration outside the classroom, polling programs used to acquire data if the grant is research based, and prezi or other presentation software for when students present ideas to the class prior to final submission. The MC chapters offered a great deal of practical and rhetorical advice on technology use, particularly for multimodal assignments, in the classroom. Issues such as access, bridges and barriers to learning technology, and maintaining an open-ended project plan are particularly useful. The written grant in the sciences is formulaic. However, the process used to achieve the final grant may benefit from strategic and critical use of technology.

I like your project idea and can't wait to chat with you about it.
ReplyDeleteYour plan to choose a few technologies to use in the future is the best plan. The only way you really learn these various tools is by giving yourself a project (thus the notes assignment as brief introductions).
I like your concluding comment, very true!
