Comments:
The 2011 Horizon Report is a particularly useful document for those interested in the emerging technologies over the next five years that will likely impact and be integrated into the teaching and learning environment. The current technologies include electronic books, mobiles, augmented learning, game-based learning, gesture-based computing, and learning analytics.

The use of electronic books or at least reading various texts through an electronic medium is increasingly popular. One issue that arises rather frequently with e-books is the inability to pinpoint and share specific sections of text while in class or for formal citations due to a lack of page numbers. Page numbers are an extremely useful marker during classroom discussions and are missed when not present in an electronic book. It will be interesting to see how we work around this glitch, the solutions we find, and how referencing a text may change.

Game-based learning is an interesting medium used to acquire skills in collaboration, problem-solving, decision-making, and innovation. The number of scenarios that one can create for students to practice these skills is endless. However, the cynic in me says that these skills can be learned outside, on your feet, hands-on, and in reality. Gain the majority of your skills in the real-world with actual experiences, that impact people in reality and then use game-based learning to augment.
